Draining the pipes before a frost
Draining the pipes before a frost is the one job that cannot be done after the fact.
Frost is the one kind of damage that arrives on a date the weather announces in advance.
The pipes that fail are the ones in the places nobody heats: the loft, the garage, the outside tap and the run under a suspended floor.

Worth doing
- Lag the runs in the loft, in the garage and under the floor.
- Close and drain the outside tap before the first frost.
- Leave low heat on rather than none in a cold week.
- Find the stopcock, and check that it still turns.
